Traditional World

Living tradition

Everyone we meet loves to share the stories of their families and way of life with us, and often we leave with biscuits, grapes, cherries or anything else they have to hand to send us on our way

One of our neighbours picking mountain greens for our lunch.

On the way back from picking olive branches for his goats. The animals know their own way home!

Haunting traditional pipe music played at the local coffee shop.

Welcome to our traditional home

Little has changed here for the people we meet on our walks. The shepherds and farmers, coffee shop owners and weavers, all living as they have for centuries. They love their home and are fascinated to meet new people to share stories.

Collecting the local crops of olives and carob the horse and donkey are still the preferred carriers to access all the terraced groves on the mountain. Local farmers live in harmony with their environment and protect the land for the future generations. We help by repairing old paths and clearing routes to the higher groves.

One of our tavernas, where the owner Litsa, collects and dries flowers and herbs and makes olive soaps and jams.  This room is full of family photos, old agricultural equipment and traditional cooking pots. In the winter the fire is blazing and the food is amazing, especially as it is all home grown….even the rabbits!
