Your Experience

Your day will start at the Oceanis hotel on the seafront in Tyros where you have uninterrupted views to the sea for the sunrise and time for a quick early swim or wander for a few photographs along the water's edge.

Breakfast will be laid ready by Roula and Tassos with fresh bread, local marmalade, honey and eggs of your choice with Greek yoghurt and fruit in season.

There will be plenty of coffees and teas to choose from including the mountain tea picked locally on the slopes of Parnon.

The minibus will take you for an hour's drive through fantastic scenery or you will start the walk directly outside the hotel.

You spend your day walking on the mountain paths with views to the sea or to mountain peaks passing through villages with traditional buildings and meeting with shepherds. You will stop to see the flowers and mushrooms, monasteries and ancient ruined walls and temples half hidden in the greenery and catch sight of the buzzards and eagles hunting around you.

After a few hours you stop for your snack or picnic lunch specially prepared by Roula, including a homemade pie different every day with leek, cheese, spinach or chicken to choose from and pastelli biscuits to follow.

The day may end with a swim at a white pebble beach and a taverna with a blazing fire depending on the weather! You will try the local dishes of rabbit stifado, or pork with chestnuts accompanied by fried cheese bread, salads and handpicked mountain greens. Those with a sweet tooth can have mastica or honeycomb, chestnut, orange or walnut cake accompanied with Greek yoghurt or homemade ice cream.

Back to Tyros you will have a chance for a late stroll along the seafront for a nightcap or sit on your balcony to watch the moon rise over the windmills and water.

Through the week you will also have opportunities to shop for pottery, handloom tapestries and carpets, and rural products from the women's cooperative. Also you have the chance to use the small library to check out the flora and fauna and local history that you have seen.

Finally if the weather is really bad or you would like a rest day we can organise a visit to Nafplion where you can visit the excellent archaeological museum and Palamidi Castle. Alternatively we can take you to Kastanitsa and the Parnon Environmental Centre with an afternoon cookery lesson at Anna's taverna.

Our terrain is varied, from level coastal paths to mountain peaks. Underfoot we walk on dirt tracks, cobbled paths and smaller trails. We balance our routes to ensure you get the maximum enjoyment for the minimum effort but most routes include uphill stretches (rocky at times) with up to a 300m height differential.

You will enjoy walking with us if you are a regular walker used to days of up to 12 miles.
